Daniel: Some of my talent will be jonesing when my stash runs out. My electronic dictionary does not have that word! Meaning that a Japanese person playing Miami Law in English would have to google "jonesing" to figure out the definition, the same way I often do with words in Japanese games! --- Overall, the story reminds me of Donnie Brasco(one of my JTEs loves that movie). |

Gamebook
As a kid, I remember reading a Batman choose your own adventure book. Suppose on p. 7, Joker invites you to save Comissioner Gordan by coming alone. If you decide to obey and go alone, go to p. 33, or if you go with the entire Gotham City police force, turn to p. 99. Sword World Gamebook 2 on NDS is a lot like that, but in a fantasy setting. I like it so far, the default speed for auto-scrolling text is just right for me. On the other hand, To Heart 2 Portable on PSP's auto-scrolling text is super duper fast. I'm guessing well-read native Japanese can read at that pace, but not me. In fact, I want to bring it to school and ask various people if they can keep up with the pace at which the text scrolls, but I think some of the teachers might speak out against me freely displaying my PSP in school. Because if Japanese REALLY can read that at pace, my next goal would to reach that level of reading speed. In a way, it's really just a high-tech novel, but the other teachers don't really understand video games, they'll just see the PSP and think EVIL! Gamebook's wiki has very little info on the matter unfortunately. |

school service project needs crochet hooks!
i need some help, guys. my partner is a teacher out in surprise, and this year they’re required to complete a community service project by december. she and her teammate have decided to have their 8th grade students crochet hats and booties for phoenix children’s hospital. i will be going in a few days a week to teach them to crochet. this is where i need some help. we have about 60 kids to teach and only a dozen hooks. if you have any crochet hooks you can donate to this cause, please let me know and maybe i can arrange a pick up or provide a dollar or so for shipping. i work at michaels and get a discount, but even then, the hooks are $2 apiece, and none of us have that kind of money. any size is fine, but we’ll probably use f-k the most. extra needles for sewing in ends would also be fantastic. if you also have some yarn in your stash that you’d like to add to the cause, i wouldn’t mind that either. :p we will be donating the items the second week of december, but we will be continuing it throughout the school year. if you do have any items please email me (sheepishlyknit@gmail.com) and we’ll set up the exchange. also, please feel free to repost this anywhere you think is relevant. thanks, all! |

medical doctor?
I am currently making meishi for my mom's employees to present to some japanese people who are visiting her company later this month. since some of the people I am making business cards for are doctors, I obviously want to denote that on their cards. however, I don't know how D: the word for "M.D."/"doctor of medicine" is 医学博士 (いがくはかせ / いがくはくし) I don't know whether to put it before, after, or under the person's name on the card. does anyone know? or has anyone seen a meishi from a japanese doctor who could help me out? any help would be greatly appreciated... my japanese professor is taking forever to email me back D: thanks! cross-posted (once!) sorry! |

Now I'm schedueled to sleep over there on Monday night. This time I'm gonna stay up sunday night so I can actually sleep on monday (since I'll probably be out of sleeping pills by then). |

I bought it in the states and it was shrink-wrapped, but I wasn't sure if it was shrink-wrapped by the store I bought it at or if it's original wrap so I've opened it to check the condition. The Dow Jones Industrial Average slipped back above 10,000 Thursday as Congress moved to extend a homebuyers tax credit. The Dow jumped 203.82, or 2.08% to 10,0005.96, while the S&P 500 added 20.3, or 1.92%, to 1,066.63. The Nasdaq rose 49.80, or 2.42%, to 2,105.32. Steve Grasso said on CNBC's "Fast Money TV" show that he would be leary about trading tomorrow on the basis of the Dow hitting the 10,000 mark. Fucking sleep clinic
Okay, so I was at the sleep clinic on tuesday and they schedueled me for a 10pm sleep study on thursday (which is today). So I programmed that reminder on my cell phone so I wouldn't forget. The time comes, so I drive all the way to the fucking sleep clinic so I can do an arbitrary and possibly impossible to do sleep study only to find... that they FUCKING CLOSED THE CLINIC DOWN FOR THE NIGHT. So now doped up on the sleeping pills I took before I came I drove all the way back home. I'm gonna fucking call these fuckers in the morning and make them tell me why they closed the building before I could arrive for my own fucking sleep study. I also say this study won't work because I already HAD a sleep study done in Ann Arbor (which takes a good two hours to drive to) and I barely got any sleep with all those wires and shit they attached to my body. Fuck this night, I wasted precious gas to drive there only to find that the building was closed for the night. I shouldn't be doing this, if this were any other night I'd be asleep by now. Hi all :) I will be traveling from San Diego to Tombstone in late April of 2010. Since we will be driving I was wondering about things to see along the way. Something to break up the 7 hr drive a bit and give us a chance to stretch our legs. Cheesy, bizare, good food, just plain odd... things like that. :P I have Googled the past couple days and not had any luck. I read the memories here and did not see anything along those lines. Any suggestions would be great and muchly appreciated! We will be traveling along I-8 to I-10 E and finally AZ-80 E. Thanks in advance. |
